At James Hornsby we are passionate about learning and as a school we have put thinking at the heart of learning.
As an accredited Exeter University Thinking School, we are recognised for our sophisticated and ambitious approach to teaching and learning. We want our young people to become confident, articulate and successful adults through an innovative approach to learning.
That is why we foster the essential skills every young person needs for academic success and the world of work, including:

We invest in our staff so that they have the very best training and resources to deliver outstanding lessons every day. Outstanding Teacher programmes, Masters degrees, action research projects and leadership training are just some of the programmes available, supporting staff to deliver inspirational lessons.
Lessons are structured within a broad and balanced curriculum model, which drives high academic achievement whilst nurturing creative and sporting talent. Students receive a wealth of learning opportunities including: triple science; a range of modern foreign languages; and specialised music lessons, from classical instruments to our thriving school rock band.
As a school we strive to create a climate for learning that develops independent and co-operative learning skills using a range of well researched tools and strategies. As a result, teachers at James Hornsby provide learning experiences that excite and enthuse our learners in such a way that encourages a growth mindset and the skills to become lifelong learners.
