GCSE Examination Results 2023

A set of record results were recorded at James Hornsby in 2023. Whilst grade boundaries returned to 2019, JHS still managed to increase the number of students achieving a pass (grades 9-4) in English and maths to 55% up over 20% compared to 2019.

Grades at the top end (9-7) also increased compared to 2019 and the overall number of grade 5s doubled in comparison

Our attainment 8 score is also our highest on record at 4.18. Our progress 8 score will be published later in the autumn term

Other notable successes included:

  • 73% achieved a grade 9-7 in Chemistry; 68% in Physics and 61% in Biology
  • 85.7 achieved a grade 9-4 in sociology
  • 93.9% achieved a grade 9-4 in French and 90% in Spanish
  • 50% of students achieved a grade 5 in Geography and History
  • 53% A*-A in Childcare
  • 64% D2 in Performing Arts
  • 100% pass rate for Sport studies, Childcare, Media, Travel and Tourism, Hair and Beauty

Given the uneven impact of the pandemic on school and college performance data, the government has said you should not make direct comparisonsbetween the performance data for one school or college and another, or data from previous years.

 

KS4 Student Destinations

The percentage of pupils staying in education or employment for at least 2 terms after key stage 4 is:

  • 94% in 2021
  • 92% in 2019

Previous Examination Results

  • 2019: Progress 8 Score: -0.29

Pupils study a broad range of subjects. Staff encourage pupils to aim high. Pupils leave the school well prepared for future learning or employment
