The James Hornsby School

KS4 Choices Process

KS4 Choices Process

Our ultimate purpose is to ignite hope, drive ambition and advance the life chances for everyone who is part of the James Hornsby family.

Here at James Hornsby, students begin their choices process in Year 9, in order to begin their KS4 studies in Year 10. Included in this are compulsory subjects that students have to study and also optional subjects, which the students select.

Compulsory subjects include:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Double science
  • CORE PE
  • PD

Depending on the students pathway, students will be able to select from a variety of subjects to take. Subjects include GCSE qualifications and vocational subjects. Optional subjects will include new courses not studied before, for example, GCSE Sociology and vocational courses, such as, Hair & Beauty, Construction, Travel & Tourism, plus many more. The extensive range of subjects on offer includes both academic and vocational courses, which will give students the qualifications they need for their next steps, and to achieve future success.

Throughout Year 9 students and parents will be informed of the pathway for their KS4 journey and the choices available to them to select. Our personalised pathways make learning more engaging for our students, and drive their motivation as they start their journey into the wider world.
