Pupil Premium & Catch-Up Funding
Our philosophy is articulated in the fact that disadvantage is never a barrier to achievement at the James Hornsby School.
In order to achieve this, we use the Pupil Premium monies to raise achievement.
Pupil premium is funding provided to schools which is additional to main school funding. It is allocated according to the number of students on-roll who are eligible for free school meals (FSM), ‘Looked After` (in care) and a smaller amount for the children of service personnel. Funding was extended to all students in receipt of FSM for the last six years in 2012.
It is for schools to decide how the pupil premium is spent, as they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made. Schools are held accountable for these decisions.
In 2019/2020 the school received £424,490 in respect of Pupil Premium. Pupil Premium is to be used to help students from families as described above, primarily to raise the attainment and close the gap between these students and those not entitled to this support. Nationally these students achieve at a level significantly below those not entitled on all key indicators.

COVID-19 Catch-up Premium
The COVID-19 Catch-up premium has been provided to assist schools in providing additional support and intervention for students in years 7-11 to help combat the negative impacts of the unprecedented disruption to their education as a result of coronavirus. The aggregate impact of lost time in education will be substantial, and the Covid-19 catch-up premium is provided in response to the scale of the significant challenge.
Year 7 Catch-up Funding
The Year 7 Catch-up Fund provides schools with additional funding to support each Year 7 student who did not achieve a score of 100 in either English or Maths at the end of Key Stage 2. Please see the link below for more information.
For 2020-2021 the COVID-19 Catch-up Premium has replaced the Year 7 Catch-up Funding.
